Matcha Banana Bread Recipe: A Cozy Everyday Recipe

(A moist, fragrant, gently sweet Matcha Banana Bread)

If you love the earthy aroma of Japanese matcha, this Matcha Banana Bread is the perfect combination. Soft and tender with natural banana sweetness and a subtle matcha depth, this loaf is ideal for breakfast, afternoon tea, or a cozy homemade treat :-)

Ingredients (for 1 loaf)

Perfect for 6-8 slices.

  • 2-3 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
  • 115g unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 150g sugar
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 190g all-purpose floue
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 8-12g matcha powder (adjust according to your preference)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Optional add-ins: white chocolate chips, walnuts
Instructions:

1. Prepare your tools

  • Preheat oven to 175°C 
  • Line a loaf pan with baking paper

2. Make the batter

  • In a bowl, whisk mashed bananas until smooth
  • Add melted butter, sugar, and egg; mix until combined
  • Sift flour, matcha, baking soda, and salt into the bowl 
  • Gently fold until just combined (do not overmix)
  • Fold in optional add-ins if using

3. Bake

  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan
  • Bake at  175°C for 50 mins

The top should be lightly golden, and the inside soft and moist (not dry) 

4. Cooling

  • Let cool in the pan for 10 mins
  • Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing
